Laser Safety Training

Important:  Please read the Course Description below before Registering for this Course.

Course Overview

There is a large group of physicians who retain privileges to perform procedures which require the use of medical lasers. These physicians must obtain and maintain the necessary skill, knowledge and experience to use medical lasers in a safe and effective manner.

As part of the NYP credentialing process, physicians who utilize laser equipment must document successful completion of training and education in Laser Safety. This computer-based training module has been developed to assist physicians in fulfilling this requirement. Completion of this training, in itself, does not confer laser privileges.

Course material will address laser light features and characterizations; biological effects of laser-tissue interaction; laser hazards and hazard prevention; and facility-specific safety practices for protection of personnel and patients.

New York Hospital Queens is accredited by the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. New York Hospital Queens designates this continuing medical education activity for 3.0 Category I credit towards the AMA, PRA. For each physician that successfully completes this education, credits will be included in the NYHQ CME report.
